Financial Communications & Brand Positioning - Making Financial Performance Meaningful

Financial communications connects financial performance, business strategy, and brand positioning to a clear and credible narrative. Working closely with Investor Relations, it helps organizations explain not only what the numbers say, but what they mean and why they matter. As organizations compete for attention, differentiation, and trust, financial communications has become increasingly important. Economic and geopolitical uncertainty, fragmented audiences, heightened stakeholder expectations, and the rapid growth of AI-generated information are changing how organizations are evaluated and understood. Tantalus helps communications professionals translate complex business and financial information into clear, audience-specific narratives that strengthen credibility, support stakeholder alignment, and reinforce market positioning.

Connecting the Numbers to the Bigger Picture

Financial results provide an important view of organizational performance, but they rarely tell the entire story. Investors, employees, customers, media and other stakeholders also want to understand the strategy behind the numbers, what differentiates the organization, and where it is headed. Tantalus helps organizations build that connection by bringing financial performance, business strategy and brand positioning together. The numbers show what has happened. The narrative explains what they mean and why they matter. This approach helps organizations communicate their value more effectively while ensuring that brand promises are grounded in actual business performance and strategic direction.

Financial Communications & Brand Positioning

Our work can help communications teams:
  • Understand the business: Build a stronger understanding of business models, value creation and financial performance.
  • Strengthen positioning: Connect business performance and strategy to corporate reputation and brand value.
  • Map stakeholders: Identify key audiences and develop communications that address their different priorities and expectations.
  • Build the narrative: Translate financial results and business strategy into clear, credible and compelling communications.
  • Navigate complexity: Help organizations communicate effectively during periods of growth, transformation, uncertainty and change.

Why Relevance Matters

Being well known is not the same as being valuable. Markets change, competitors catch up and new technologies create new expectations. What differentiates an organization today can become commonplace tomorrow. The rapid development of AI is accelerating this cycle, making it easier to replicate capabilities and increasing the volume of information competing for stakeholder attention. Strong organizations therefore need to continually demonstrate why they matter. Financial communications can play an important role in this process by connecting what an organization does with how stakeholders understand and value it. When communication is clear, consistent and supported by performance, it can help strengthen differentiation, relevance, credibility and trust.

Building Brand Value Through Communication

Brand and reputation are increasingly important intangible assets, yet their value is not always visible in traditional financial statements. Financial communications helps make these connections more visible by providing context around an organization’s strategy, performance, competitive strengths and future direction. Tantalus works with communications and leadership teams to develop narratives that clearly articulate:

  • Where the organization is going
  • What differentiates it
  • How it creates value
  • Why its strategy matters
  • What its performance means for key stakeholders

The objective is not simply to communicate financial information. It is to help audiences understand the organization and its value.

Financial Communications Workshops

Tantalus also provides tailored workshops for mid-level and senior communications professionals looking to strengthen their understanding of financial communications, business strategy and brand positioning. Programs are typically delivered over two to three days and can be adapted to participant experience and organizational priorities.
